Review | Organix Rejuvenating Cherry Blossom Ginseng Shampoo, Conditioner and Shine Finish Spray

Here’s the Organix Rejuvenating Cherry Blossom Ginseng range. It’s supposedly organic but I’m sceptical of this claim.

Firstly, organically-harvested products tend to be on the pricey side, thanks to the labour intensive work involved. Yet this is a fairly affordable brand (each of these products is S$14.90). I’m not faulting the brand for not being expensive but this is telling of its sources. In addition, the exotic Asian extracts appear towards the end of the ingredient lists*, so I do wonder about their efficacy.

Secondly, the ingredient lists are filled with chemicals. I do use commercial hair products and am not an organic-fanatic but I find its name extremely misleading.

Here’re my thoughts after trying out the press samples that were sent to me:

• The shampoo cleans well and though it isn’t stripping, I can’t run my fingers through my wet hair without meeting with resistance – my hair strands can clump together and tangle up.

• The conditioner alleviates this to a certain extent but it doesn’t leave my hair entirely smooth or snag-free – there is some dryness especially at the ends. This, despite letting it sit on my hair for quite a while (sometimes ten minutes or more when I hand-wash my baby’s clothes in the bathroom). As such, it is quite wanting as a conditioner.

• The smoothing spray is quite lovely – it detangles very well without weighing down my hair. It contains alcohol but despite that being its first ingredient, it isn’t drying at all. Instead, it is finely balanced – the alcohol giving it a lightness that delivers adequate moisturise to my dehydrated tresses. It reminds me of Lúcido-L Hair Treatment Water, only more moisturising. It also adds a soft shine to my hair that doesn’t border on or lead to greasiness. Another plus point is that the shampoo and conditioner seem to become somewhat more effective when I use them together with the spray.

The scent on the first two products is too cloying for me, an-almost gourmand sweetness that doesn’t remind me of either cherry blossom or ginseng (though, to be honest, I wouldn’t use ginseng-scented hair care). The spray, on the other hand, has a subtle sweet floral smell that I can take to.

I won’t be purchasing the poo and dish on my own but the shine spray is something I might replenish, thanks to its lightweight texture and good detangling ability.
