Review | Sleek Makeup The Berry Collection Christmas Edition

This Christmas, Sleek has created a berry-centred collection that is not only holiday-appropriate, it is also on-trend with this rich hue and the matte texture.

In this collection are Kohl Pencil in Mossberry (burgundy), True Colour Lipstick in Cranberry (mulled wine) and Blush in Fenberry (crimson rose). All are dressed in black with a metallic berry print bearing their names. Very chic!

The chubby pencil goes onto the lids well (no tugging or skipping) and blends fairly smoothly. It can be used as an eyeshadow but beware of the bunny or bruised look. It’s best not to line under the eyes with this pencil to avoid this. It isn’t smudge-proof, so an eyeshadow base is necessary. I like it mixed with a black eyeliner for a smokey berried line.

The lipstick  is a berry with fuchsia undertones and would flatter most cool-toned ladies. It is undoubtedly striking on its own but can be mixed with a clear gloss for a less heavy look. I do fancy its original appearance, though; it’s an indubitably modern shade. Its only drawback is its dryness – it’s a true matte (unlike Shiseido’s gorgeous Perfect Rouge Glowing Matte Lipsticks that have unbelievable glide) and very unforgiving, so you must prep your lips well (exfoliate, moisturise, blot) before application.

The blush is my favourite item of the three in this set, thanks to its smooth matte finish and its modern shade of berry. I like how it can act as a blush and a contour shade at the same time – it pairs well with a highlighter to bring out cheek structure.

All are made in Taiwan.

The colours and intensity are quite extreme, so I’d only recommend this to people who can pull off these tones, unless you are willing to soften them or play with layering/mixing them with other colours.

Here I am with the Fenberry on the cheeks and Mossberry as shadow and liner (I mixed it with a black eyeliner on the lash lines). I mixed a smidgeon of Cranberry with Sleek Pout Paint in Cloud 9 for a nude pink look. My eyebags (yes, those facial banes!) are so unflattering…

Ah, much better! :P

Here I am with just Mossberry + a black liner on the lash lines and Cranberry straight from the tube to the lips. It’s a pretty shade but I could do without the emphasis of lip lines and flakes!

At only £9.99/US$15.99, this box of Christmas makeup is rather affordable, considering you’re getting a look in a box and fairly good quality makeup at that. This limited edition set is currently available online and at Superdrug stores in the UK.
