Za Cosmetics Plumper Lips Preview

I was at Shiseido Singapore yesterday, where I was given a preview of the new Za Plumper Lips collection comprising lipsticks and lipglosses.

According to Za, they contain:

  • Fill-Up Collagen to moisturise, condition, smooth and plump up lips, enhancing the lip barrier function at the same time.
  • Plump-Up Pearls to minimise the appearance of fine lip lines, colour-correct lips and give a three-dimensional effect with its red prismatic pigments.

With these two key ingredients, these lip products promise to bring smooth colour and multi-dimensional shine to the lips.

The Za Plumper Lipsticks (S$13.90) remind me of Maybelline Watershine lipsticks, only with finer shimmer particles. There are a total of nine lip colours available here:

  • 01 Ruby Dazzle
  • 02 Rosy Flush
  • 03 Cinnamon Shimmer
  • 04 Rose Vintage
  • 05 Innocent
  • 06 Pearl Pink
  • 07 Candy Pink
  • 08 Ruby Rich
  • 10 Brown Red

Apparently 09 was too orange for the Singapore market, so the company did not bring that colour in.

These smooth and shiny lipsticks have an easy glide to them and I like their reflective sheen (I had to delete a few photos because the light was bouncing off the swatches!). They all look wearable and I know they will appeal to many Singapore women.

The Za Plumper Lip Glosses (S$9.90) impressed me with their smooth texture and consistency. I also like their glimmer and lustrous appearance. There are a total of six shades available here:

  • 01 Glossy Cherry
  • 02 Fire Opal
  • 03 Honey Pink
  • 08 Sheer Pink
  • 09 Playful Pink
  • 10 Strawberry Soda

Apparently one of the glosses that didn’t make it here is yellow in colour. The management was concerned that it might not appeal to the masses so it was not brought in. A pity, really, as I think it might make a pretty topper for warm lip shades or neutralise cool shades. Yellow is quite a fashion-forward hue too!

They go on well and aren’t overly-sticky. I like how they start off sheer but can be built up to a slightly more opaque finish.

I have a feeling that Ruby Dazzle and Glossy Cherry will sell well here. Ruby Dazzle is a silky mauved-rose, while Glossy Cherry is a soft red that would make a lovely lip tint (I like its translucence and non-shimmery finish). Together, they create a very pretty pout.

Za recently revamped its packaging to steer away from its formerly lower-end drugstore brand image. The brand has  gone pink, to symbolise its youthful outlook!

As a mark of this, the Plumper Lipsticks are packaged in rose-tinted metallic plastic lippy tubes. The casing is a tad light and doesn’t have the solid feel of pricier lipsticks but I do think the quality of these lippies – and the glosses – is surprisingly good for their low and very affordable prices.
