When I saw Stars Makeup Haven Eyeshadow Single in Metro on Karla Sugar’s wonderful swatch site, I knew it had to be mine, thanks to its pewter shade. At only US$4.95 a pan, this eyeshadow is not only affordable, it is also rich in pigment. A pressed powder version of Benefit Skinny Jeans, the complexity of this beautiful shade, together with its intensity, truly impresses me.
Karla Sugar describes Metro as “an intriguing, shimmery, warm steel. It’s slightly green-grey (kind of the color of money)”. Although she classifies it as a warm colour, it has definite cool tones. I think it is the mix of cool and warm that makes it a special shade. Like MAC Eyeshadow in Vex (a duo-chrome colour that also has cool and warm tones), Metro is at once neutral and complex. You can wear it on its own but when you pair it with other hues, you will be surprised by its morphing/colour-offsetting abilities.
If you’re fond of such shades, this would be a wise investment. As you can tell from the swatch – just one swipe! – it is dense in pigment. It also goes on smoothly and wears well.
Clockwise from the top left: Stars Makeup Haven Eyeshadow Singles in Unzipped, The White Shadow, Metro, Smoke and Mirrors. All SMH shadows fit palettes that can accommodate MAC pans.
Although it works with many shades, I put it together with other SMH shadows to make up a smokey eye palette in my kit. These colours go well together (although the charcoal shade of Smoke and Mirrors does seem a tad too cool, compared to Metro). As with all SMH eyeshadows, Metro is only available in pan form. I do wish SMH made it in pot form though! :)

Golly! I couldn’t quite get the slide mechanism to work to comment until after 5 tries but I persevered because I had to let you know that this is a gorgeous colour! Something I’d definitely love. I’ll check it out :D
Hello PB!
Sorry about the Captcha; am trying something new to beat the spam comments. :P Do try Metro; it’s very pretty! :)
it has a very nice shimmering colour
Hi Choo,
It also has a metallic sheen. ;)
SMH has gone sooo far downhill in regards to service! BEWArE!! I ordered four empty blush palettes over a month ago and they were never delivered. My money was taken out of my bank almost immediately, but my order still says processing on their site. I have sent four emails to try to find out what’s going on, but no response. I started a complaint with paypal earlier this week, but my order still says processing. This is not my first time ordering from them. Earlier this year in April I ordered two empty 28 pan eyeshadow palettes, which fit my mac eyeshadows perfectly, but got them after two weeks. SMH made up for the delay by including a free eyeshadow and explaining on the invoice that they were short staffed because some people went back to school, blah blah blah. I also noticed around that time on their twitter that they were going to hire or hired new staff. I recently checked their twitter again and they have no problem tweeting constantly, but apparently have a problem with responding to their customers’ emails!!!!! I will wait one more week, but if nothing changes, I will have to escalate my complaint with paypal and get my money back!
Hi aRi,
I hope your shipping issue is resolved soon. Thank you for sharing your experience!
hi!! did u buy the stars makeup haven eyeshadow online? I was just wondering one year from then if you still liked the eyeshadow :) i heard it is as pigmented (and much cheaper) than MAC’s eyeshadow. I hope I can hear from you soon!
Hi Christina,
Yes, I bought it directly from SMH. It’s a pretty shadow – I don’t reach for it often because I have so many to choose from but I still like it. :)
